Seminar: 12:30pm-2pm Refreshments: 2pm-2:40pm The Turkish Society of Canada will host a seminar on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM (ET) that will discuss the upcoming harmonization of the Ontario Retail Sales Taxes with the Canadian Federal Goods and Services Tax. The event will be held in English and will be open to all members and non-members. Harmonization is the most significant development to impact Canadian sales taxes in the last 10 years. With less than three months until sales tax harmonization (July 1, 2010), individuals and business will need to start considering what changes will be required to comply with the new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) rules and how other potential implications of harmonization may impact their organizations. A panel consisting of Mr. Bob Delaney, MPP for Mississauga/Streetsville and Mr. Eric Paton, Associate Tax partner from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, will discuss the impact of the rules, input tax credit (ITC) restrictions, and timelines to assist individuals and businesses in preparing for the significant changes that lie ahead. The panelists will highlight the policy behind harmonization, technical considerations in respect of the rules, and some steps that can be taken to ease the transition. The seminar will not be a debate of the policy or the rules, but will strictly be an information session to inform the audience of the upcoming changes and their impact. There will be a 15 minute question period at the end where the audience may ask questions to the panel in respect of the rules and timelines.
